Farm Town Adds New Rotate Feature to Structures

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

Chronically addicted Farm Town farmers will have already discovered that Farm Town has just received a ton of new items and has new features for us all to enjoy. If it has been a while since you tended to your crops, then I think this upgrade deserves your attention.

Of course not every upgrade will please every farmer, but one new feature is certain to please everyone that has a farm in need of a new look and feel. The new feature of which I am speaking is the “Rotate” feature found in the context menu when you click on pretty much any of the wide variety of structures found on your farm.

It has been a consistent complain since I started Farm Town farming that the direction in which our farm houses, barns, and even mailbox point is the direction around which we must design our entire farm. Until yesterday, Farm Town farmers had no ability to turn or “rotate” a structures direction. On behalf of all of us that have filed this complaint in forums, in chats with fellow farmers, and of course here on Farm Town Weekly, we all want to thank Slashkey for finally answering our call for this much needed new “rotate” feature.

This image illustrates the new rotate feature

This image illustrates the new "rotate" feature being applied to a barn. This works on all or most other structures on your Farm Town farm including the mailbox. Just click on an item and select "Rotate" from the drop-down context menu to change the direction of any structure where this feature has been enabled.

I would like to remind all of our loyal listeners and new farm town friends that we will be doing a Labor Day show on Monday, September 7th at 7:30 PM Central time and let you know that we have a real treat for those that join us LIVE. Listen while we stream live over the net, text chat with fellow farmers, and of course as always you are welcome to call in and talk with Mountain Mamma and I.

Farm Town Improves Plow Tool with Latest Update

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Farm Town Farmers are noticing that SlashKey has added a few of the most frequently requested improvements to help make life on the farm a little easier. Among the most notably and conspicuous was the upgraded plow tool.

In the last major upgrade, SlashKey added the ability for farmers to hire fellow farmers (employees) to plow their fields for them rather than have to do it themselves. Since then we have learned that a farmer must have 10 neighbors (facebook friends) on our My Neighbours list to unlock this feature.

New Multi-Plot Plow Tool

New Multi-Plot Plow Tool

The last release has been a big hit and provoked many Farm Town farmers to seeking out new facebook friends in order to add enough neighbors to unlock the “Hire to Plow” feature. I think having others plow for you and being able to plow for your neighbors was a great idea because it sparked more community into the game. I was also of the opinion that the ability to hire others to plow for us would reduce or possibly eliminate the call for a tool that would allow one to plow multiple plots or fields with a single click.

The idea for a multi-plot plow tool has been suggested by many visitors to the SlashKey/Farm Town forums since well before I started my farm. However, I have seen much less talk about such a tool this since the last upgrade. Nevertheless, SlashKey has delivered this feature to the delight of many of the neighbors with which I visited this evening after discovering it in my tools menu.

Farm Town Weekly Episode Three

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Thank you to all the folks that joined in the chatroom during the live recording. A new segment of the show, Jethro salutes his hometown of Boise, Idaho and the hometowns of our chatroom visitors. Jamie “TATER HEAD” Hodges is welcomed to his chair here on the Board of Directors of Farm Town Weekly. Ms. Kelly Lynn calls in and we discuss a few new Farm Town features, ideas, and last minute suggestions for Jets bull.

Some static sneaked into some portions of the recording that I could not clear through editing. Sorry for this sound quality issue and I hope we can find and eliminate it from the next weeks episode.

Farm Town Farmer Seeks Six Hour Crop Season

Monday, July 13th, 2009

I know you were looking for comments and suggestions and I would just like to say that it would be nice to have a crop that harvests in 6 hours. For the folks who would like to put in something before they go to work or sleep and can harvest when they get home or wake up.

Eggplants are pretty. Rhubarb might be different. Beets might be neet. Also hiring to plant, they you could choose the seed to equip the employee with, maybe.  Did I type this in the right area?
