May 21st Farm Town Update

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

By now you have probably already seen the posts to your Facebook wall where your friends have bought everything from an Oil Refinery to a Taco Restaurant. Those clever little possums at Slashkey even added a small and large Sea Coast to enhance the fishing feature added in the previous recent update. Here is a copy of the post Raul made to the official forum where he announced the details of the new version.

Hey there, We just released a new version with the following features:

1. Small Sea Coast (coins): Allows you to catch Haddock, Dolfin, Swordfish, Mackerel, Eel and Crab

2. Big Sea Coast (32 FC): Allows you to catch Cod, Grouper, Swordfish, Mackerel, Eel, Yellowtail, Tuna, Crab and Lobster

3. Oil Pump Tool (coins): Allows you to produce Crude Oil

4. Oil Reinery (32 FC): Allows you to produce fuel out of the Crude Oil to be used in your harvesters and seeders. You can store the Fuel Tanks in your storage. When you go to the Fuel Station to refuel, it will take not only the fuel tanks you have received as gifts from friends, but also all stored Fuel Tanks in your storage produced by the Oil Refinery. Both counters are displayed on the same line, ‘Fuel Tanks’, in the Fuel Station.

5. Taco Restaurant (coins): Produces different Taco products like Hard and Soft Tacos, Chicken Quesadillas and Burritos. You can get the Chicken or Meat as gifts from friends or Order them from the Semi-Trailer Truck.

6. You can now harvest your flowers. You can also hire people in the market to harvest your flowers: Flower prices have been slightly adjusted to accomodate this change. It functions like the trees, when you harvest a flower you get the coins and it’s restored to it’s original stage.

7. The current Flower Shop is now a facility (25 FC): Allows you to produces different flower buckets from the harveted flowers.

8. The frequency of the Mayor asking for gifts on the game has been reduced considerably, you should not see it more than 1 or 2 times per day.

9. The Semi-Trailer truck now deliver 3 times more Hotdog Sausages in the same period of time.

10. There was an annoying error when people were harvesting for others. If the farm where they were working had some Hens moving, the message ‘do you want to use this option for the remaining of this session….” was popping randomly, this have been fixed.

[Update: Taco Restaurant now rotates] Enjoy! Thanks –Raul

Farm Town Adds Fishing and New Facilities

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

When I logged into facebook this evening one of the first things that caught my attention was a post to our fan page by Jennie (Who’s That Girl) G.  telling us that “WE HAVE NEW STUFF ON FARM TOWN!” I took a brief look at my farm, headed to the official forum to get the scoup, and visited with Jennie a spell at her farm. I’m certain to miss something but here is the overview of what I found and you can expect to find the next time you visit your farm.

Farm Town FishingFishing
You can now fish at your farm in the ponds, lakes and rivers using the Fishing Rod. The fishing rod is in the Farm Town Tool Panel on the same tab as the camera, watering can, and delete dozer.

Use the fishing rod on rivers and lakes to catch fish. You might not catch a fish on every click, it depends on the fish population. Some water items have more fish variety than others and all fish caught are sent to your storage.

If you had already water items in your farms, your fish are almost sure already grown so you can start fishing right away. If you just purchased a water item, then you may have to wait 8 or 24 hours for the fish to grow. To fish, just select the Fishing Rod and start clicking on the water. You will see the Fish count decreasing as you start catching fish. The less fish in the water, the harder it gets.

If the fish count is 0, it means you need to wait until all fish grow again. You don’t need to wait until the counter gets to 0 as that can be quite hard, your lake or river will be full with fish in 8 or 24 hours anyways.

On the ‘Ponds’ section on the store, click the ‘?’ icon next to each item to see the type of fish living on it, how fast the fish grow again, etc.  So far it does not seem to allow us to fish on other peoples farms but only our own bodies of water. I was a little bummed to discover this after packing up all my gear and heading to the lake at Ms Kelly’s. I guess this way you get to harvest your own fish without taking from others population. Hope they rethink this and make fishing at other locations possible in the future.  Jennie G tells me Jim is having a blast this evening with his new fishing rod.

Fishing Map

Big Lake with Boat holds 199 fish and Small Lake holds 46 fish. Fish are fully grown in 8 hours. These lakes do require Farm Cash to purchase but it’s easier to catch a fish in these and they are the only ones where Salmon can be caught.

Lake Fish:  Salmon, Carp, Tilapia, Catfish, Sturgeon and Trench

Big Lake holds 299 fish which are fully grown in 1-day. Except for Salmon, you can catch the same “Lake Fish” as found in the Big Lake with Boat and Small Lake. (Carp, Tilapia, Catfish, Sturgeon and Trench)

Small Pond holds 18 fish which are fully grown in 1 day.  (Carp, Tilapia)

Big Pond holds 86 fish which are fully grown in 1 day. (Carp, Tilapia, and Catfish)

River Sections and Bridge hold 32 fish each section which are fully grown in 1 day. (Carp, Tilapia, Catfish, and Sturgeon)

River Corners produce the same 1-day fish as the regular sections but hold only 16 fish. (Carp, Tilapia, Catfish, and Sturgeon)

About Waterfalls – Many people have waterfalls on their farm which requires a special technique to build and this is done by taking advantage of a glitch of sorts whereas dirt path is used to place water on top of water. I am curious if the new fishing features will cause these farms to run poorly or cause new errors to occur. If you notice anything odd happening when you visit a farm with waterfalls, please let us know what you discover.

The 7 Newest Crops

  • Celery harvests in 4 hours, costs 45, sells for 87
  • Grape Tomato harvests in 8 hours, costs 40, sells for 94
  • Lettuce harvests in 8 hours, costs 60, sells for 111
  • Peanut harvests in 12 hours, costs 45, sells for 103
  • Mint harvests in 1-day, costs 60, sells for 136
  • Garlic harvests in 2-days, costs 150, sells for 299
  • Ginger harvests in 3-days, costs 225, sells for 473

Production Limits
Slashkey had to limit the amount of products that we can have producing at the same time on each facility. The risk of inflation is too high which could impact the game dynamics significantly. The general rule is, you can only have 15 days of continuous production pending for each recipe.

Farm Town Sandwhich RestaurantSandwich Restaurant Facility can be purchased with regular Farm Town coins and allows you to make:

  • Standard Sandwich (Ham/Cheese)
  • Sandwich with Veggies (add Lettuce and Tomatoes)
  • Sandwich Supreme (Add Pickles and Onions) -> Get pickles from friends for now, later on you will be able to produce them on the Food Preserve Factory.
  • Hotdog -> get Sausage from friends or order them from the Semi-Truck tool. Get Ketchup from friends or make it on the Food Preserve Factory.

Farm Town Food Preserver FactoryFood Preserve Factory requires FarmCash to purchase and allows you to make:

  • Strawberry and Blackberry Jams
  • Pear and Peach Slices in Conserve
  • Orange Marmalade
  • Ketchup
  • Fruit Cocktail

Farm Town Weekly Season III Episode 6

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Farm Town Weekly Season III Episode 6What a show. We had a difficult time getting started and had to actually start everything over again but once we got going we had a really good time. Ms. Kelly, Mountain Mamma, Jennie G, and Data Sheet Dave joined me on the call. Later during the show we had a wonderful surprise when Sandi Lopez called in all the way from Portugal. (We love you Sandi!) and a very nice gentlemen with the user name of Mushroom Hunter also called and visited with is a while.

The topics ranged from the new items and facilities on Farm Town to the ever changing landscape of social media. We also had a somewhat passionate discussion on the health care reform bill. What a great group we have to be able to talk about such issue from both sides of the political fence.

I’m already looking forward to getting together with you all next Monday evening at 7:30 Central on TalkShoe.com – Hope you enjoy listening.

Farm Town Feature Update

Friday, February 26th, 2010

David Cooper sent me this information on the recent updates just prior to our last show so we could share it on the program. I decided to go ahead and post it here for you in case you have additional questions. For very detailed information about every aspect of Farm Town, please check out Davids “Farm Town Data Sheet.”

Chicken Coop: Allows you to harvest the eggs of the hens and geese and sell the eggs at the marketplace. The Hen is a new animal that your friends can send you as a gift. You can harvest them once every day.

Wool Shed: This is a new building that allows you to harvest the wool of the sheep and llamas and sell the wool at the marketplace. You can harvest them once every 2 days…. See More

Dairy Shed: Allows you to harvest the milk of the cows and goats and sell the milk at the marketplace. You can harvest them once every 3 days.

You just need to click on the animal building and select the harvest option. All the animals on your farm related to that building will be harvested at once. Note that depending on your computer power and other factors, having an exesive amount of animals on your farm can make the game slower.

The Dairy Shed has been moved from level 49 to level 27. A new Stone Cabin has been added on the level 49.

  • Cow’s Milk, 3 days, 100 coins
  • Goat’s Milk, 3 days, 90 coins
  • Sheep’s wool, 2 days, 55 coins
  • Llama’s wool, 2 days, 65 coins
  • Hen’s eggs, 1 day, 25 coins
  • Goose eggs, 1 day, 30 coins.

Also, your item storage capacity has been increased. Now you can storage 5 additional items for each neighbor you have.

Farm Town Adds Extra Holiday Items

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009
Late additions to the Farm Town Gift page

Late additions to the Farm Town Gift page

You have probably noticed the 4 new holiday gift items available to give as gifts to your neighbors. There is the Holiday Pig and Dog and 2 tress with lights which are the Pine and Palm tree.

Something else I noticed this early morning is that when you visit the Christmas tab in the Farm Town Store there is a gift icon beside three of the items. Clicking on that icon highlighted in the illustration below will prompt the “Request as Gift” feature allowing you to post the item to your wall on Facebook as a wish list of sorts.

Notice the Small House with Lights

Notice the Small House with Lights

Do you see what I see? There is a “Small House with Lights” which one can buy for only 30,000 regular Farm Town coins, but it also has the gift box icon allowing you to request it as a gift. I don’t see this house on the regular Farm Town gift page so I wonder if it was an error that they placed it there along with the new items.

I will say, if I notice someone post this house in a Request as Gift post today I will buy it for them because I want to see if this is an error or a sign of things to come as there have been times when I wanted to send Store Items as gifts but that is not a feature I have seen before today.

I think it would be great if we could buy things from the Farm Store for our neighbors and would also like to be able to transfer Farm Cash to them as well. I have had occasion when a neighbor was just a couple farm dollars away from buying an item she wanted and I would have been happy to transfer a couple of mine to her because I didn’t really have enough to buy anything I wanted anyway so why not. Anyway, looks like Slashkey is still tinkering in their holiday workshop.

One more note, please remember to “Become a Fan” of Farm Town Weekly as we are moving from the old fan page to a new one and also, if you have not done so yet, click the Facebook Connect button to create your facebook connected account and allow our application. This will turn on features such as “The Bull Award” discussed on episode 10 and will also allow you to post the comments you make in the “Leave a Reply” comment box below to your wall on Facebook.

Thanks in advance and Happy Farming!

Season Two Kickoff Party

Okay it was more of a race than a party, but this was a lot of fun. So much fun that I will be asking our live audience and Farm Town neighbors to join us again on my farm to do it again immediately following our next show on Monday. (more…)

Farm Town Adds New Rotate Feature to Structures

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

Chronically addicted Farm Town farmers will have already discovered that Farm Town has just received a ton of new items and has new features for us all to enjoy. If it has been a while since you tended to your crops, then I think this upgrade deserves your attention.

Of course not every upgrade will please every farmer, but one new feature is certain to please everyone that has a farm in need of a new look and feel. The new feature of which I am speaking is the “Rotate” feature found in the context menu when you click on pretty much any of the wide variety of structures found on your farm.

It has been a consistent complain since I started Farm Town farming that the direction in which our farm houses, barns, and even mailbox point is the direction around which we must design our entire farm. Until yesterday, Farm Town farmers had no ability to turn or “rotate” a structures direction. On behalf of all of us that have filed this complaint in forums, in chats with fellow farmers, and of course here on Farm Town Weekly, we all want to thank Slashkey for finally answering our call for this much needed new “rotate” feature.

This image illustrates the new rotate feature

This image illustrates the new "rotate" feature being applied to a barn. This works on all or most other structures on your Farm Town farm including the mailbox. Just click on an item and select "Rotate" from the drop-down context menu to change the direction of any structure where this feature has been enabled.

I would like to remind all of our loyal listeners and new farm town friends that we will be doing a Labor Day show on Monday, September 7th at 7:30 PM Central time and let you know that we have a real treat for those that join us LIVE. Listen while we stream live over the net, text chat with fellow farmers, and of course as always you are welcome to call in and talk with Mountain Mamma and I.

Please log into our website and share your comments here in a reply to this post. If you are not a member, we invite you to register and join us.

This is actually my home, on a mountain top in West Virginia.  Sorta reminds me of the little brown house on Farm Town.

Y’all come and set a spell, will leave the porch light burnin’ for ya.
