New Version of Farm Town Supports Second Farms

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

Slashkey announced today that they have released a new version of Farm Town. The main feature included in this update is the ability for farmers to purchase a second farm.

To maintain stability across their servers, the developers have released this update to only about half the Farm Town farmers and will be monitoring server load while steadily releasing it to the rest of the Farm Town population. According to the official forum at Slashkey, all farmers should have the ability to buy a second farm within the next couple days.

Christmas Holiday Items Coming Next Week!

The new holiday items are on their way and should be available sometime next week according to the official announcement in the Farm Town “Slashkey” Forum. Between the addition of second farms and new holiday items, we should have a lot to chat and talk about on the next few episodes of Farm Town Weekly.

Note: New members will be seated on our Honorary Board of Directors on Monday so please come and help us celebrate these special friends of Farm Town Weekly.

Farm Town Weekly Season II Episode 7

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

On November 20th, Slashkey, the developers of Farm Town released the biggest update of the games history. There are new crops, trees, and items in nearly every category of the store. What’s more, we now have new levels up to level 60. Happy Farming indeed!

We were thrilled to have Virginia “Whats Her Name” Johnson come and guest host the show this evening. What happens with two old friends get together after so long? Well, for one thing we end up recording the longest episode to date. We did take a brief moment to honor Virginia as we officially welcome her to her seat here on our Farm Town Weekly Board of Directors. Please enjoy this episode by clicking the play button on the player below. You may want to open a new tab first so you can Farm and play on Facebook while you listen. Happy Thanksgiving!!!

New Farm Town Gift Item for Your Neighbors

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

I am so pleased with SlashKey for adding new Gift items to Farm Town. Some of my favorite Farm Town items are those that can only be received as gifts rather than be purchased at the Farm Store.

Jethro Hill not included :-)

Jethro Hill not included (^_^)

The instant I noticed the new items in the gift list, I had to wonder if the Red Crocus flower had been unlocked or released. I scrolled down to the bottom of the list to find that it was still locked and unavailable to give as a gift. I guess this is good news because it might infer that there is still more to unlock which typically would require reaching a new level or achievement.

September has been a great month in Farm Town with the variety of new items that were made available. My only disappointment is that there is still no Milk Can. It would seem to me that this would have been added by now but I will just keep on farming and hoping one will eventually become available in the Farm Store.

Have fun sending and receiving the new items and until next time, Happy Farming!!!

Farm Town Weekly Episode Eleven

Monday, September 7th, 2009

Our Labor Day Special! A big group of our favorite neighbors new and old came to visit us during the live recording of this episode. Mountain Mamma, Ms Kelly, and I chatted a while about the new Farm Town items and features released over the weekend.

Also, we revealed our Labor Day Surprise which was a special interview/fireside chat with Jacques Lemon who is the creative talent behind “Farm Town – The Movie.” The interview was of course pre-recorded as Episode Twelve and ready for release immediately following the live recording of this Episode Eleven.

Farm Town Adds New Rotate Feature to Structures

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

Chronically addicted Farm Town farmers will have already discovered that Farm Town has just received a ton of new items and has new features for us all to enjoy. If it has been a while since you tended to your crops, then I think this upgrade deserves your attention.

Of course not every upgrade will please every farmer, but one new feature is certain to please everyone that has a farm in need of a new look and feel. The new feature of which I am speaking is the “Rotate” feature found in the context menu when you click on pretty much any of the wide variety of structures found on your farm.

It has been a consistent complain since I started Farm Town farming that the direction in which our farm houses, barns, and even mailbox point is the direction around which we must design our entire farm. Until yesterday, Farm Town farmers had no ability to turn or “rotate” a structures direction. On behalf of all of us that have filed this complaint in forums, in chats with fellow farmers, and of course here on Farm Town Weekly, we all want to thank Slashkey for finally answering our call for this much needed new “rotate” feature.

This image illustrates the new rotate feature

This image illustrates the new "rotate" feature being applied to a barn. This works on all or most other structures on your Farm Town farm including the mailbox. Just click on an item and select "Rotate" from the drop-down context menu to change the direction of any structure where this feature has been enabled.

I would like to remind all of our loyal listeners and new farm town friends that we will be doing a Labor Day show on Monday, September 7th at 7:30 PM Central time and let you know that we have a real treat for those that join us LIVE. Listen while we stream live over the net, text chat with fellow farmers, and of course as always you are welcome to call in and talk with Mountain Mamma and I.

Farm Town Improves Plow Tool with Latest Update

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Farm Town Farmers are noticing that SlashKey has added a few of the most frequently requested improvements to help make life on the farm a little easier. Among the most notably and conspicuous was the upgraded plow tool.

In the last major upgrade, SlashKey added the ability for farmers to hire fellow farmers (employees) to plow their fields for them rather than have to do it themselves. Since then we have learned that a farmer must have 10 neighbors (facebook friends) on our My Neighbours list to unlock this feature.

New Multi-Plot Plow Tool

New Multi-Plot Plow Tool

The last release has been a big hit and provoked many Farm Town farmers to seeking out new facebook friends in order to add enough neighbors to unlock the “Hire to Plow” feature. I think having others plow for you and being able to plow for your neighbors was a great idea because it sparked more community into the game. I was also of the opinion that the ability to hire others to plow for us would reduce or possibly eliminate the call for a tool that would allow one to plow multiple plots or fields with a single click.

The idea for a multi-plot plow tool has been suggested by many visitors to the SlashKey/Farm Town forums since well before I started my farm. However, I have seen much less talk about such a tool this since the last upgrade. Nevertheless, SlashKey has delivered this feature to the delight of many of the neighbors with which I visited this evening after discovering it in my tools menu.
